Watching dreamy sunset colours, with air fresh of lavender and rosemary…
You’re not the only one who dream about Mediterranean. Actually, about Adriatic Sea.
This piece of Europe is blessed with relaxing and inspiring beauty. Despite its turbulent history, guarded in stone houses, the life at the Adriatic seems simple and easy. Most tourists wish to stay here forever, and many have made that dream come true.
One of such towns is definitely Tivat in Montenegro.
Hidden in the heart of Boka, the greatest and the most beautiful bay in Mediterranean, Tivat is exactly what you need after being in isolation at home. Take your beach towels even if you come visit during the fall – warm sea in the bay can mean swimming even in November. Of course, prices are lower at that time, even though there is a hint that the prices will be reduced even during the peak season.
Why do we mention that?
If you google “Tivat”, you will see that it is a high – class town, known for those having “deep” pockets. Thanks to a luxury nautical settlement Porto Montenegro, it’s been years that Tivat has been well known among the world’s elite for its charming beauty.
However, vacation in Tivat is much more than that.
Porto Montenegro is an open class settlement. You can reach it by taking a walk along Tivat’s promenade called Pine, without even noticing that you came into this luxurious oasis. It has been perfectly fitted in the ambient, with no kitsch and extensive details, so it seems as if it were always there.
The most luxurious settlement in the region actually appeared in 2006, where former military shipyard “Arsenal” existed. However, before the admiral of Austro – Hungarian navy ordered its construction in 1899, rich families from Kotor, Prčanj and Dobrota had their villas over there, so it seems Tivat has always attracted wealthy people.
Tivat preserves the memory of “Arsenal” through exhibitions in the Naval Heritage Museum, and a former palace of a noble family Buća has been turned into the Gallery you may also visit. People from Tivat can breathe the life into anything, so Porto Montenegro is really a proof that glamour may have a gentle note.
Take a walk through the streets, have a drink in one of the cafés, and no matter how rich you are, you will feel as if you belonged there.
Of course, Tivat is not just a luxury nautical settlement, which you can understand as soon as you land at the airport. Many people had their first encounter with Montenegro right above Tivat, which, as they say, was a love at first sight.
The youngest Boka’s town has a rugged coastline, while the islands hide stunning beaches. Purple oleanders, smell of pines and nostalgia in the air will strike you at the Island of Flowers (Ostrvo cvijeća), where you can visit former military resort and a monastery of St. Michael the Archangel. On St. Marco Island, a popular former resort, you will find genuine peace in olive shade. You must not miss a Luštica Peninsula and a famous beach called Plavi horizonti (Blue Horizons). Besides this one, Luštica has Oblatno and an exotic beach called Velja Spila where the video for the famous Montenegrin song “Đe se kupaš?” has been shot.
For those who love tracking tours, there is Vrmac hill. Arranged paths will lead you to a beautiful, rustic village Gornja Lastva, dominated by the bell of church of St. Ilia. It is a historic village, while its inhabitants still preserve some traditions such as mashing the olives by hands, along with songs and gatherings. Stone houses are surrounded by Mediterranean plants, while the view over the bay is absolutely breathtaking.
Of course, there is also Donja Lastva – a typical small place by the sea that cherishes its own culture and tradition.
For nature lovers, there is a place called Tivatska Solila – a unique nature reserve where the birds gather. The entry is free of charge, and the walk through this sweet and salty oasis gives a refreshment. You won’t miss nature in Tivat since the greatest botanical garden of south Adriatic is located there! Namely, a park in Tivat keeps various types of exotic plants that the sailors used to bring from all over the world.
So, if you were caught dreaming of seaside air, wild beaches, taking a walk with stunning sea view, sun – setting and Mediterranean lifestyle, welcome to the Adriatic sea and Montenegro.
And the town in Boka with most sun – Tivat – is an ideal basis to travel through the coastline.
You will wish to stay forever.
